Chicago Bears Make History with Kyler Gordon's Record-Breaking Contract Extension
The Chicago Bears continue their aggressive offseason strategy, making a major move ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft. On Sunday, April 13, the Bears locked in a cornerstone of their defense by signing cornerback Kyler Gordon to a three-year, $40 million contract extension, including $31.25 million guaranteed.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the deal makes Gordon the highest-paid slot cornerback in NFL history, securing his presence in Chicago through the 2028 season.
Bears Prioritized Gordon’s Extension This Offseason
Extending Kyler Gordon was a top priority for Bears General Manager Ryan Poles, who emphasized the team’s desire to build around the talented corner.
“I know Kyler is a guy that we want to be a part of this moving forward,” Poles told ESPN’s Courtney Cronin two weeks ago. “The timing of that, I’m not sure how that’s going to work out, but that is a priority.”
Gordon’s Impact Since Entering the League
Kyler Gordon, 25, has been a steady presence in the Bears’ secondary since being drafted with the No. 39 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft out of the University of Washington.
In three seasons, he has appeared in 42 games (34 starts), contributing:
- 17 pass breakups
- 9 tackles for loss
- 5 interceptions
- 2 forced fumbles
- 1.5 sacks
Gordon’s versatility and reliability in the slot have made him one of the most valuable young defensive backs in the league.
What’s Next for the Bears?
This move comes after a busy free agency period and just ahead of a pivotal NFL Draft, where the Bears hold three picks within the first 41 selections. With major cap investments and key draft capital, Chicago is poised to build a playoff-contending roster.
