Cleveland Browns Eye Louisville QB Tyler Shough in NFL Draft, Remain Interested in Shedeur Sanders

The Cleveland Browns may be looking to add depth at quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft, with Louisville’s Tyler Shough emerging as a potential target. According to ESPN draft expert Mel Kiper Jr., the Browns could select Shough as they seek to strengthen their quarterback room following a disappointing 2024 season.
Mel Kiper Links Tyler Shough to Cleveland in Latest Mock Draft
In his latest NFL mock draft, Mel Kiper projects Tyler Shough as a fit for the Browns, who are dealing with uncertainty at quarterback. With Deshaun Watson sidelined due to a re-torn Achilles and Kenny Pickett currently the only other QB on the roster, Cleveland may use the draft to secure a capable backup—or even a future starter.
“Shough has the arm strength to drive the ball through Cleveland’s tough weather and stands tall at 6-foot-5 and 219 pounds,” Kiper noted. “While some teams may be wary of his age—he turns 26 this year—he brings a wealth of experience with 951 career pass attempts across 43 games. He could realistically compete with Pickett for the starting job.”
Tyler Shough's Collegiate Journey
Tyler Shough's college football career spanned three programs: the Oregon Ducks, Texas Tech Red Raiders, and Louisville Cardinals. In his senior season at Louisville, Shough posted 3,195 passing yards, 23 touchdowns, and only six interceptions—highlighting his consistency and decision-making.
Cleveland Browns Also Monitoring Shedeur Sanders Ahead of 2025 NFL Draft
While Tyler Shough is gaining traction, the Browns have also shown ongoing interest in Shedeur Sanders, standout quarterback from the Colorado Buffaloes and son of NFL legend Deion Sanders (aka Coach Prime). Reports suggest Cleveland has been tracking Sanders even before the 2024 season concluded.
Though Shedeur Sanders’ talent is undeniable, some scouts and insiders have raised concerns over the perceived influence of his father, Deion Sanders, on his football journey—questioning whether his presence could affect team dynamics at the next level.
Browns Insider Defends Shedeur and Deion Sanders
Despite the speculation, Cleveland Browns insider Kenny Mac has come to the defense of both Shedeur and Deion Sanders.
“Deion Sanders would never put his son's NFL career at risk,” Mac stated. “His experience and presence shouldn't be viewed as interference, but rather as guidance. The Browns organization doesn’t see Coach Prime as a distraction.”
Shedeur Sanders has remained a top quarterback prospect and participated in the University of Colorado NFL Showcase, where scouts were able to evaluate his readiness for the pros.
Browns Focused on QB Depth Ahead of 2025 Season
After finishing last in the AFC North with a disappointing 3-14 record, the Cleveland Browns are determined to bounce back in the 2025 NFL season. Their search for a reliable quarterback—whether it be Tyler Shough, Shedeur Sanders, or another emerging talent—is central to that rebuild.
Key Stats:
- Tyler Shough (2024 Season at Louisville): 3,195 passing yards, 23 TDs, 6 INTs
- Browns 2024 Record: 3-14 (4th in AFC North)
- Deshaun Watson: Out with re-torn Achilles
As the draft approaches, all eyes will be on who the Browns choose to lead their offense into a new era.
