Jadeveon Clowney Released by Panthers Ahead of 2025 NFL Season
Veteran edge rusher Jadeveon Clowney, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, has been released by the Carolina Panthers. The former South Carolina standout is expected to enter his 12th NFL season, assuming he signs with a new team before the 2025 regular season kicks off in September.
Clowney began his career with the Houston Texans, where he spent five seasons and reached his peak form. From 2016 to 2018, he earned three consecutive Pro Bowl selections, solidifying himself as one of the league’s most disruptive defensive forces.
Since departing Houston, Clowney has taken on a journeyman role, playing for five different teams in the last six years: the Tennessee Titans, Seattle Seahawks, Cleveland Browns, Baltimore Ravens, and most recently, the Panthers.
His longest post-Houston stint came in Cleveland, where he played two seasons, but he failed to stick with any other team for more than a year.
Over his NFL career, Clowney has recorded:
- 409 total tackles
- 108 tackles for loss
- 58.0 sacks
- 15 forced fumbles
In 2023, Clowney experienced a resurgence with the Ravens, tallying 9.5 sacks and helping Baltimore to a 13-4 record and an AFC North title.
Although his prime years appear to be behind him, Clowney still offers value as a veteran pass rusher. With his experience and recent production, he’s expected to find a new team ahead of the 2025-26 NFL season.
