Los Angeles Lakers Extend Rob Pelinka, Name Him President of Basketball Operations
The Los Angeles Lakers have officially extended the contract of Rob Pelinka, reaffirming their confidence in the veteran executive. Alongside the extension, Pelinka has been promoted to President of Basketball Operations, while retaining his role as General Manager.
Pelinka Secures Long-Term Commitment from Lakers
Reported by ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania, the move solidifies the Lakers’ leadership core, with Pelinka now set to work closely alongside head coach JJ Redick for the foreseeable future.
"The Los Angeles Lakers have signed Rob Pelinka to a contract extension, with his new title as President of Basketball Operations along with General Manager," Charania posted on social media.
The decision signals strong approval from Lakers Governor Jeanie Buss, who publicly endorsed Pelinka’s leadership in a press release:
“For eight seasons, I have relied on Rob’s vision and leadership to do what’s best for the Lakers organization. I value his partnership and professionalism and believe in his ability to deliver championship-caliber basketball for Los Angeles and Lakers fans everywhere.”
A Proven Track Record of Success
Pelinka was instrumental in building the 2020 championship roster, and more recently shocked the NBA world by trading for All-Star guard Luka Dončić in a blockbuster deal. Known for bold moves and tough decisions—including the controversial departure of Anthony Davis—Pelinka has made it clear that his only goal is to win.
Lakers Primed for a Deep Playoff Run
Currently entering the 2025 NBA Playoffs as the No. 3 seed, the Lakers will face off against the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round. With home-court advantage, momentum, and a roster heavily shaped by Pelinka, expectations are sky-high in Los Angeles.
