Oilers Blank Sharks 3-0, Sweep Season Series in Regular-Season Finale
The Edmonton Oilers closed out their 2025 NHL regular season with a commanding 3-0 victory over the San Jose Sharks, completing a four-game sweep in the season series and gaining key momentum heading into the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Ty Emberson Shines in Breakout Performance
Defenseman Ty Emberson led the charge with a goal and an assist, earning first-star honors. His opening goal at 8:20 in the first period set the tone, and he later assisted on a second-period goal by Max Jones, who gave Edmonton a 2-0 lead at 10:17 of the second frame.
Corey Perry sealed the win with an empty-net goal in the final minutes.
Between the pipes, Stuart Skinner was perfect, stopping all 18 shots he faced to secure the shutout.
Connor McDavid Hits 100 Points Again
Superstar captain Connor McDavid notched an assist on Emberson’s goal, giving him 100 points on the season. This marks McDavid’s fifth consecutive and eighth overall 100-point campaign, placing him in elite NHL company. Only Wayne Gretzky (15), Mario Lemieux (10) and Marcel Dionne (8) have reached that milestone as often.
Sharks Struggle, But Youth Shows Promise
San Jose extended its losing streak to 11 games (0-8-3), capping a difficult season that saw the Sharks finish with the NHL’s worst record. Goaltender Alexandar Georgiev made 25 saves in the loss.
Despite the tough year, rookie standouts Macklin Celebrini and Will Smith provided bright spots for the future of the franchise.
Farewell to Logan Couture
The Sharks paid tribute to former captain Logan Couture, who officially announced his retirement due to injury. A touching video montage was shown during the first stoppage, honoring the fan-favorite's legacy in San Jose.
