Portland Trail Blazers GM Joe Cronin Signs Multiyear Contract Extension
The Portland Trail Blazers have officially extended the contract of General Manager Joe Cronin, securing his role with a multiyear deal announced Monday. While specific terms of the extension were not disclosed, the organization expressed strong confidence in Cronin’s leadership and long-term vision.
“Joe has demonstrated leadership and vision during his time as General Manager, and I'm excited to see him continue building the foundation for a long-term, winning team,” said Jody Allen, Chair of the Trail Blazers. “We are all thrilled with the team's forward momentum and excited for the future of Trail Blazers basketball.”
Cronin, who initially signed a four-year contract upon being named GM on May 9, 2022, is now nearing the end of his third season in the role. Under his leadership, Portland has made significant strides, entering this week with a 35-44 record—a notable 14-win improvement from last season’s 21-61 finish—with three games left in the regular season.
Despite showing positive momentum, the Trail Blazers will miss the playoffs for the fourth consecutive year. However, the team’s 22-16 record since January 19 signals strong development and progress under Cronin’s guidance.
A longtime member of the organization, Cronin began his career with the Trail Blazers as an intern in 2006. He steadily climbed the ranks, becoming Director of Player Personnel in 2014 and later Assistant General Manager in 2021 before being promoted to GM.
The extension reaffirms Portland's commitment to a rebuild centered on smart drafting, player development, and long-term competitiveness in the Western Conference.
