Alex Iafallo Lifts Jets Over Blues, Snaps St. Louis’ 12-Game Win Streak
Alex Iafallo broke a third-period tie to help the Winnipeg Jets snap the St. Louis Blues' franchise-record 12-game winning streak with a 3-1 victory on Monday night at Canada Life Centre.
Jets Regain Top Form With Key Victory
Morgan Barron and Adam Lowry also found the back of the net for the NHL-leading Jets (53-21-4, 110 points), who have now won five of their last seven games. Goaltender Connor Hellebuyck made 14 saves in a defensive effort that kept the surging Blues in check.
Blues Still Leading Wild Card Race
Pavel Buchnevich scored the lone goal for the Blues (43-29-7, 93 points), while Joel Hofer turned aside 23 shots in net. Despite the loss, St. Louis remains in control of the top Western Conference wild-card spot, holding a two-point edge over the idle Minnesota Wild.
Game Highlights: Iafallo Delivers the Game-Winner
Iafallo netted the game-winner at 7:05 of the third period, burying a rebound off a shot from Kyle Connor to give Winnipeg a 2-1 lead. Adam Lowry sealed the victory with an empty-net goal with just nine seconds left on the clock.
The game was tied 1-1 heading into the third period.
Second Period Action: Barron and Buchnevich Trade Goals
Barron opened the scoring for Winnipeg just 2:34 into the second period, capitalizing on a Blues turnover to score his first goal in 11 games.
St. Louis answered at 7:27, as Buchnevich fired a one-timer from the left circle to tie the game. The goal marked his fourth in five games. Robert Thomas, who delivered a slick backhand assist from behind the net, extended his point streak to nine games (4 goals, 16 assists). Thomas was also named the NHL's Third Star of the Week earlier in the day.
Jets Dominate Early, Control Puck Possession
The opening period saw limited offense, with the Jets outshooting the Blues 8-3 and holding them without a shot for over 13 minutes.
The game also featured a family showdown, as St. Louis captain Brayden Schenn faced off against his brother, Jets defenseman Luke Schenn.
Injury Updates
Winnipeg was without forward Nikolaj Ehlers for a second straight game after taking a puck to the foot in a game against the Vegas Golden Knights. Colin Miller also missed the matchup due to illness.
