NBA Blowout History: Pelicans, Hornets, Wizards, and Jazz Suffer Massive Losses in Historic Night

The 2024-25 NBA season is wrapping up for several struggling teams, but for the New Orleans Pelicans, Charlotte Hornets, Washington Wizards, and Utah Jazz, the end couldn’t come soon enough.

On Friday, April 11, 2025, all four teams endured massive losses, each by 30 points or more, making NBA history in the process. It marked just the fourth time in league history that four such blowouts occurred on the same day.

Here’s a breakdown of the lopsided results:

  • Miami Heat 153, New Orleans Pelicans 104 (Heat win by 49)
  • Boston Celtics 130, Charlotte Hornets 94 (Celtics win by 36)
  • Oklahoma City Thunder 145, Utah Jazz 111 (Thunder win by 34)
  • Chicago Bulls 119, Washington Wizards 89 (Bulls win by 30)

These results pushed the season total to 78 games decided by 30+ points, just one shy of the all-time record of 79 set during the 2021-22 NBA season.

“It’s challenging. For sure, it’s tough,” said Pelicans head coach Willie Green after his team trailed by as many as 52 points against the Heat. “You feel for your guys. They’re out there fighting and we’re undermanned, but at the same time, you’ve got to be able to go through some adversity. It builds you. It makes you stronger.”

The night nearly saw even more blowouts:

  • Minnesota Timberwolves beat Brooklyn Nets by 26
  • Dallas Mavericks led the Toronto Raptors by 38 before winning by 22
  • Phoenix Suns held a 31-point lead over the San Antonio Spurs before settling for a 19-point win
  • Golden State Warriors were up 27 on the Portland Trail Blazers before winning by 17
  • Orlando Magic had a 35-point lead on the Indiana Pacers before closing with a 15-point margin

A Look Back at Other Historic Blowout Nights in NBA History

Friday’s slate joins a short list of days with four 30+ point blowouts:

  • Dec. 7, 2016
  • Sacramento 120, Dallas 89
  • Cleveland 126, New York 94
  • Houston 134, L.A. Lakers 95
  • Boston 117, Orlando 87

  • Jan. 15, 2019
  • Golden State 142, Denver 111
  • Milwaukee 124, Miami 86
  • Philadelphia 149, Minnesota 107
  • Indiana 131, Phoenix 97

  • Utah 126, San Antonio 94
  • Atlanta 135, Phoenix 103
  • Portland 141, Cleveland 105
  • Boston 132, Orlando 96

As the regular season concludes this Sunday, fans and analysts alike will be watching to see whether the NBA blowout record will fall. With just one more 30-point game needed, history could be made yet again.
